Fashion trends That Are Coming Back

One of the many reasons we love seeing what the hottest designers showcase on the runway? They offer a look at the world through rose-colored lenses. Or blue. Or yellow. Or green. That’s right, dear reader: Tinted shades are making a comeback. Eyewear brands such as Moscot, Barton Perreira, and Persol are giving your everyday shades a fun, upbeat twist. As cool as these may be, the chances of sporting these and not looking like Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused are slim — so not “alright, alright, alright” in 2016. Our recommendation? Opt for a subtle-hue like yellow or orange. Trust us, these colors are bound to stay under the radar unlike candy-colored pinks and blues.

2. Skinny flares

This spring, ditch the baggy bottoms and while you’re at it, bench those straight-legged skinnies: The hot silhouette this season is the skinny flare. Fitted down the leg, and boasting an increasingly wider shape from the calf down, the style made an appearance at this season’s Gucci runway show. However, as you may have guessed, style trailblazers run the risk of looking like John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever with these zesty slacks. Might we suggest pairing these bottoms with a relaxed blazer in a matching hue and neutral T-shirt? More laid-back financier, less Tony Manero.

3. The poncho

What’s a seventies revival without a poncho? Sure, this micro-trend has yet to become mainstream, but emerging designer Greg Lauren and the well-established Belstaff have both included the hippie-friendly topper in their spring collections. This, dear reader, may perhaps be the most difficult 1970s trend to make modern and fashion-forward; however, that hasn’t stopped us from taking on a style challenge. Whether you’re hitting up Coachella or spending an afternoon in the great outdoors, save your poncho for your more adventurous days versus the office. For optimal results, select a neutral-hued poncho and pair it with fitted olive trousers and a thick-soled hiking boot.

4. Cheery florals

As the great fictional editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly said in the fashion-girl favorite The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” While this snarky comment may be true for women’s springtime garb, adding some florals to menswear still offers innovative, invigorating results. In fact, several upscale brands — such as Hermès, Dolce & Gabbana, and Burberry Prorsum — highlighted the cheery pattern for this season. While boasting blossoms head to toe with a patterned suit will score style kudos a’plenty, it may be too wild for a print novice. For a subtle alternative, style a floral button-down with a solid suit or pair some printed shorts with a colorful polo.

5. Get silky

As the mercury rises, it’s only natural for any clothes-sporting human to shed their thick flannels and wools in favor of lighter textiles. Luckily, this sheeny fiber was featured by menswear heavyweights such as Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Andrea Pompilio in the spring 2016 runways. Unlike some of these other retro trends, adding some silk into your ensemble is easy for any guy on the sartorial spectrum. For an effortlessly chic vibe, up your monochrome game by mixing your silk garment with different fabrics that match your focal piece in color.
